Tackling the Catechism: Laetamur Magnopere and Fidei Depositum
Laetamur Magnopere quote…
“This text will provide every catechist with sound help for communicating the one, perennial deposit of faith within the local Church, while seeking, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to link the wondrous unity of the Christian mystery with the varied needs and
conditions of those to whom this message is addressed.”
Call me crazy, but that spoke to me. Maybe it was because I’m feeling the need for that ‘help in communicating’ it speaks of.
Fidei quotes…
Considering the number of people involved in consultation etc on the Catechism…
“This response elicits in me [JPII] a deep feeling of joy, because of the harmony of so many voices truly expresses what acould be called the “symphony” of the faith.”
I have experienced something of that deep joy as I, at long last, experience true unity in the faith.
“The four parts are related one to another: the Christian mystery is the object of faith (first part); it is celebrated and communicated in liturgical actions (second part); it is present to enlighten and sustain the children of God in thier actions (third part); it is the
basis for our prayer, the privileged expression of which is the Our Father, and it represents the object of our supplication, our praise and our intercession (fourth part).”
I loved this because I could see the beauty of the order, and the way each part is the natural result and extension of that which came before, and how they all work together so beautifully.
“If faith is not expressed in works, it is dead (cf. Jas 2:14-16) and cannot bear fruit unto eternal life.”
Beautifully said… it isn’t that works save us, it is that faith with no works isn’t faith!
“The Catechism of the Catholic Church, lastly, is offered to every individual who asks us to give an account of the hope that is in us (cf 1 Pet 3:15) and who wants to know what the Catholic Church
believes.”
How wonderful is that… it is the result of doing what we are TOLD to do by the Lord, be ready to give an account. Available to anyone who wants to know what we REALLY believe… Praise God for JPII, who was so good to provide this resource to those of us who seek… and God bless all those who spent the innumerable hours and effort which such a work took over so many years.
